Parting Pro(file): Tyler Yamasaki, CEO

Meet the staff behind Parting Pro! Tyler Yamasaki.

The Parting Pro(file) Series invites you to learn more about how our team works, and who we are. We’re not just a software company of nameless faces you’ll never meet. We’re from a diverse array of educational and professional backgrounds and our quirks at work are what make Parting Pro unique. We believe every funeral home we serve is equally special, and our personal service reflects our dedication to getting it right for your business. Now, you can get to know us!

At Work:

My name is Tyler, and I am a Magician. If you’ve come by a booth at one of the shows, you’ll know I mean this quite literally. Or sometimes, Chief Executive Officer. Both? In reality, all I do is help support the amazing people on the Parting Pro team so that they can achieve great things.

Background:

After graduation from UCLA, I landed my first job at an online marketing startup. That’s when I was able to really learn about online customer acquisition and marketing. I used my skills to create, grow, and sell multiple digital marketing companies across various industries.

In 2013, my life changed forever. My grandmother passed away and I helped plan her funeral. That’s when I immediately understood that there was a huge gap between my expectations as a consumer, and what was being offered by the industry. I felt I was finally able to apply all of my knowledge into something that could truly make a difference in the lives of those experiencing the loss of a loved one. Thus, Parting was born with the mission to create the best death care experience for families and professionals.

As with every entrepreneurial “there has to be another way” story, we attempted to create a marketplace for the funeral industry. Parting.com made its debut, displaying the prices of over 15,000 funeral homes across the country. Families loved it, but it still didn’t quite bridge the expectations gap. Trying to build the hotels.com (of the funeral industry) is difficult if all of the hotels are still operating with only pen and paper.

Understanding these challenges, the company took a slight detour and began the new chapter that is Parting Pro. It might not have been the easiest or quickest path, but we’re definitely right where we need to be to help push our mission of creating the best death care experience.

“I love when you experience something, and there’s that magic moment when you think to yourself, ‘Wow, this is beyond what I could have imagined.’ Creating that feeling for people is what drives me.”

Away from Work:

At home, I have a beautiful wife and two rambunctious boys who keep me on my toes. Our oldest son is 3 and our youngest joined our family just six months ago. It’s hard to believe how much they grow every day, and I’m sure every parent can relate to the joys of singing, “Baby Shark” at the top of our lungs. When I’m not chasing my kids around, I enjoy basketball and Jiu Jitsu. In rare moments of relaxation, I love just watching foreign TV on Netflix. I’m fourth-generation Japanese-American, and I love our home in Los Angeles, California where we can enjoy such a multicultural environment.
